One of the highlights of the conference will be the workshop on
Restarting/Renewing the Cursillo Movement in your area. People in the
5Cs area may be particularly interested in this session. This is a
chance to learn from the people who successfully restarted the Arizona
movement just a few years back.

The conference’s keynote speaker will be The Rt. Rev. Dorsey
Henderson, a longtime supporter of Cursillo who retired as bishop of the
Diocese of Upper South Carolina in 2009.

NEC CONFERENCE 2011 WORKSHOPS

1.
4th Day First — a means for living out our Baptismal
Covenant more effectively through Piety, Study and Action What do they
really mean and why are all three important. The Fourth Day is the heart
of the Cursillo Method. Our heartbeat in this world of constant change
as the rhythm of living out our Baptismal Covenant through Piety, Study
and Action so that we and other Christians become the apostles that God
created them and us to be. This workshop explores that rhythm, what it
has been and, moreover, its possibilities. If you are seeking to make
4th Day living more effective and meaningful, this workshop is for you.

2.
Revitalizing/Restarting your Movement — Member(s) of
the Cursillo Movement in the Diocese of Arizona share the obstacles and
successes they experienced as they started their movement anew after a
10 + year hiatus. It was not an overnight venture but one of prayer and
discernment, study, then apostolic action. This panel format will offer a
sharing of experiences along with an opportunity for questions and
answers. The panel is eager for others to describe their experiences and
concerns and to share their recommendations and encouragement as well.
It is an ideal workshop for dioceses looking to revitalize a tired
movement, and those who are exploring restarting movements currently on
Sabbatical.

3.
Clergy — Recruitment of clergy and their Role in both
weekend and Fourth Day. Cursillo is not a Lay Movement. It is one of the
best examples of team ministry in the life of the church. Clergy and
Laity each have a significant role in the success of the Cursillo
Movement. This workshop is designed to help clergy better understand
and carry out their role, not just on the Three-day Weekend, but in the
Fourth Day as well. It is also designed to help diocesan movements
recruit, encourage and support clergy involvement in all aspects of
Cursillo.

4.
“What Would Jesus Tweet?” Did Jesus invent the
Internet? We may not know for sure! We do know that He’d encourage the
use of all resources to spread the word about Cursillo! The workshop
will address: Using electronic information technology to build and
sustain effective communication among Cursillo communities;
Cost-effective tools and resources for designing and maintaining web
sites, using listservs, and making the most of social networking
options such as Facebook and Twitter; Using technology to promote
Cursillo growth, without losing the heart of our person-to-person
approach. Are you involved in communication in your Cursillo Movement?
Newsletter, Webmaster, etc., this workshop is for you.

5.
Informal Dialogue with the Keynoter. This dialogue will
provide an opportunity for participants to further explore the content
of the Keynote Address. As Bishop Henderson has been a long time
supporter of the Cursillo Movement, he is also a great resource on the
impact of Cursillo in the ministry of a diocese.

EPISCOPAL CURSILLO LEADERS WORKSHOP

There will also be an Episcopal Cursillo Leaders Workshop at the Conference, beginning Thursday, Oct. 27, at 8:30 a.m.

Movement. * To provide a background on the intent of the founders of
the Cursillo Movement. * To give people involved in the Movement a
clearer understanding of their roles. * To learn about the tools
available to make the Cursillo movement an effective instrument in the

find ways to make their respective movements more effective. * To help
people deepen their commitment to Christ.

Save the date to attend the National Cursillo convention in Phoenix

The National Episcopal Cursillo convention is a time for renewal, fellowship, learning and fun. It’s an annual event that’s open to all Cursillistas. This year it will be held in Phoenix — a location that’s much more convenient than usual for Californians. The dates of the convention are Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 27-30. (Unfortunately, that conflicts with our women’s Spanish-speaking Cursillo weekend in Pomona.) We will provide more information as it become available.

Parish representatives

Each parish with an active Cursillo community, or even just one or two cursillistas, should have a parish representative. That person will help maintain communications between parish cursillistas and the secretariat. Please suggest who would be a good contact person for your parish by sending an email to cestewart@cox.net. Perhaps it’s you.

Prayer requests

Please pray for the following Cursillo weekends around the country. These Cursillo communities pray for our weekends and send us palanca. We’ll be sending them palanca too, assuring them of our prayers that the Holy Spirit will touch each of the people on these weekends:

We are putting together material to help us reach out to those who do not understand the life changing nature of the Cursillo experience. You can assist us in this progress by telling your story. Please write down, a short story saying something about your Cursillo weekend or your subsequent experience as a member of the Cursillo community. The Lord Loves A Cheerful Giver

Thanks be to God, Cursillo is solvent and in the black—for now! In order to pay for our weekend expenses and other expenses incurred during a fiscal year, we really rely on the community to give cheerfully and generously to continue the work of Cursillo in the Diocese of Los Angeles. In order to break even on just the weekend, we need $125.00 per person attending. Sometimes, a team member or Sponsor cannot come up with that much money. We never turn away either workers or candidates because of a lack of funds. This has always been our policy and will remain so.

What this means is that we truly walk by faith that the Lord will provide all that is needed. In fact, we claim the truth that God will provide “exceedingly and abundantly beyond what we can hope for or imagine.” Please, if you are able, send a support check to Cursillo to keep this important work going. Your partnership with the Lord will be a blessing to many, including yourself! Tax-deductible checks can be mailed to the address at the top of the letter.
